Madame Rosé is the latest in my series of southern Madames. She is a cousin of Olivia and Madame Pompeii. Even as a student, I was particularly fascinated by the paintings of antiquity and everything they have experienced: Their beautiful patina, created through all the centuries. Inspired by this, the background is applied in countless layers of paint and then removed again to create a look as if from another time. Above it, as if worked from gold leaf in the light: Madame Rosé.
